We are the OWLS!

Mr Chapman, Miss Ali

Autumn 2009

Gosh, half the term gone already. I know lots of people are saying, 'What half-term already,' but the children are very tired and lots of them have been poorly so maybe 'Half -term atlast,' might be nearer the mark.

Neverless we have had a very busy and productive half-term and we have made a pretty seemless transition to The Junior Department.

Literacy

After half term we will be extending our work on narrative dialogue into play writing so any chance to read some playscripts will be very helpful. We have lots at school but if you are at the library or you look online then I'm sure you will find lots to have a look at.

We will then be going on to do some work on poetry and then onto factual texts.

Numeracy

We will be looking at patterns in number before launching into multiplication and division. A quick sortie into time telling and data handling will be keeping us busy in the run up to Christmas.

Science

We have still got a little bit more work to do on teeth and eating before we have a jolly good time playing with magnets and springs.

Topic

After our exciting discovery at the beginning of term we will be thinking more about extinction in the next half term and creating our own environmental pods.(P.S. We will be needing lots of shoe boxes if you could save any you have.)

Art

Our drawings have been very impressive but we are going to be creating some sculptures so watch out in the Turner prize nominations for breaking news.

D.T.

Our D.T. models are slowly taking shape and a big thankyou to mums who have been helping us with our soup making.

We will be doing lots of other things aswell including word processing in I.C.T, Rituals in R.E. And democratic processess in P.S.H.E to name a few.

 Class News

What a busy half-term we've had and it will only get more exciting as we head up to Christmas.

First of all may I say a great big thankyou to all the Mums, Dads and other carers  who have been so supportive at the beginning of this term. I know you are probably heartily sick of hearing 'Mr. Chapman says,' but your assistance with the endless requests, homework sheets etc. has been greatly appreciated and certainly makes things alot easier my end and makes a huge difference to your children. Well done, you may all have a star.

We had a really interesting time in Peterborough at the gudwara and at the cathedral. We all learnt lots and were able to put the things that we had learned in school in context.

We all danced our little hearts out at St Peter's ehere we were taught a sports inspired routine with lots of other year three children from other local schools.

Stuff

Homework

Given out on Friday for completion by the following Thursday. Please try to support and sign if you can. If homework presents a problem don't do it and write a note on sheet. If you have helped alot please put a star by it. Little and often especially with the L.C.W.C. but the idea is for them to organise their time, not you. Can we try to keep the endless pieces of paper in a folder.

P.E.

On Monday and Wednesday, both inside and outside kit appreciated i.e. Plain T shirt, shorts, socks, trainers, ( Sun hat and drinks for hotter weather please)

Help If you have any time to help it is always greatly appreciated, with the proviso that I don't think that it's a good idea for you to work with your own child. Please remember you will need a police check (forms available from the office.)

Reading Children have a variety of reading books. Will discuss particular strategy for your child at greater length at Parents evening. If you have any problems before that come and have a chat.

Communication If you have any concerns or problems please come and see me. I am always available before and after school, but if you need a longer chat please phone and make an appointment. Similarly, I will do the same if necessary. If we don't have up to date numbers please inform office.

Drinks Drinks of water have been proven to aid concentration. Drinks of anything else have been proven to make everything sticky.

Talents If you have any particular talent or expertise that you think we might be able to utilise please let me know.

All the best Neil.
