We are the OWLS!

Mr Chapman, Miss Ali

Spring 2010

Have you been in and seen us in our swanky new classroom yet? If not get your offspring to bring you in. The unkind rumours that I would not fit all my stuff in turned out to be untrue and amazingly I found all sorts of stuff I'd forgotten I had.

Numeracy

I don't know if you had noticed, but we are getting very good at Maths. We will be spending an increasing amount of time applying our skills to what we laughingly call, 'real life situations,' so if you don't know what a haystack, a haystack and a half and two haystacks make, watch this space...... or if you do know come and tell me.

Literacy

As you probably already know we are involved in writing instructional texts at the moment as we compile our Baby book.... we will then turn that on its head and give it a different spin. We will also be exploring the stranger side of the English language as we investigate 'alarmed doors and plants crossing,' in language play.

Inventions through the ages will occupy our minds in topic as we put together our own proposals for 'The Dragon's Den.'

In Science we will be investigating Rocks and Soils. Please come and join us in class on our Science open morning. In D.T. we may easily need cutting out as we Papier mache ourselves and our containers.

We will also be inviting you to a class assembly soon so watch out.

 Class News

Half term gone and downhill all the way to the summer. It hardly seems credible but the term is racing past and so much still to do.

Can I first of all apologise for the seemingly endless stream of request for this and that, even I am getting a little fed up with constant reminders but be assured they are nearly at an end so if we could just have the larks tongues for our toasted sandwiches we will leave you in peace. In my defence I have to say that I did not choose the ingredients and in your defence can i suggest that you are a little circumspect when trying any of the sandwiches as the things that are going into them would even confound that lady in The Vicar Of Dibley who made marmite and anchovy cake.

Parents evening is upon us. Again I will try my very best to stay to time if you will.

All the best

Neil

Stuff

Homework

Given out on Friday for completion by the following Thursday. Please try to support and sign if you can. If homework presents a problem don't do it and write a note on sheet. If you have helped alot please put a star by it. Little and often especially with the L.C.W.C. but the idea is for them to organise their time, not you. Can we try to keep the endless pieces of paper in a folder.

P.E.

On Monday and Wednesday, both inside and outside kit appreciated i.e. Plain T shirt, shorts, socks, trainers, ( Sun hat and drinks for hotter weather please)

Help If you have any time to help it is always greatly appreciated, with the proviso that I don't think that it's a good idea for you to work with your own child. Please remember you will need a police check (forms available from the office.)

Reading Children have a variety of reading books. Will discuss particular strategy for your child at greater length at Parents evening. If you have any problems before that come and have a chat.

Communication If you have any concerns or problems please come and see me. I am always available before and after school, but if you need a longer chat please phone and make an appointment. Similarly, I will do the same if necessary. If we don't have up to date numbers please inform office.

Drinks Drinks of water have been proven to aid concentration. Drinks of anything else have been proven to make everything sticky.

Talents If you have any particular talent or expertise that you think we might be able to utilise please let me know.

All the best Neil.
